Frequently Asked Questions

When should I upgrade my electrical panel?

Are you experiencing unusually high electric bills? Flickering lights? Damaged appliances? These are signs of electrical problems that should never be ignored. If you notice these signs and you’re not sure of the cause, there’s a good chance that something is wrong with your electrical panel. See more here, or Contact us for an inspection and quote.

How long is my electrical panel box in good working order?

As a general rule, electrical panels must be replaced every 25 to 40 years. One of the most important reasons to do this is that older breakers weren’t built to support modern appliances. Using newer appliances without an upgrade may result in constant tripping and circuit overloads. See more here, or Contact us for an inspection and quote.

My home has old-style breakers. Is that a problem?

While all homes are unique, the most common answer is YES. Older breakers weren’t built to support modern appliances. Using newer appliances without an upgrade may result in constant tripping and circuit overloads. Moreover, an upgrade is crucial if your home uses fuse boxes. Since fuse boxes can be a fire hazard, they are no longer widely used and we recommend upgrading them as soon as possible. See more here, or Contact us for an inspection and quote.

Should I remove my Federal pacific panel

The short answer is YES!

For context, as a working Master Electrician in Connecticut, I see all kinds of homes and commercial buildings. The northeast in general (and Connecticut in particular) has some wonderful, older buildings. Many of the owners and realtors love these structures for their character. It is impressive to have a 150-year-old building that’s still structurally sound. The challenge is what’s happening INSIDE that structure. We refer to these as “the mechanicals”. Times change, materials change and local building codes change. In this Blog, you’ll find some great information about WHY you should change your Federal Pacific Electrical Panel Box as soon as possible.
